Five Things to do After Launch

Launching your new website (or new pages on your existing one) shouldn't be the last thing you do. Here are five things to do after you launch that will ensure your website is a professional representation of your business:

  • Test again
  • Be prepared for volume influx
  • Submit to Search Engines
  • SEO Maintenance
  • Clean-up

Test Again

After you move the pages to the public server you should test again for broken images, broken links, and other paths that might have been affected.

Be Prepared for the Potential Increase in Volume

Do you have all the stations manned? Or do web inquiries to your site go unanswered? Too read more about what you can do, read "Who's Minding Your Web Store?".

Automate as many processes as you can. For example, placing auto-responders on email addresses to let the customer know their inquiry has been received will build customer trust and give you time to answer the email in person.

Don't forget to Submit Your Pages to the Search Engines

Although, the major search engines (google) and directories (yahoo) will eventually pick up your pages, you can speed things up considerably by submitting your website. If you already have a website and some pages have been deleted because of a redesign, you can submit to have them taken off google and yahoo.

Don't Forget to Clean-up

During any design effort there will be pages, images, and other files that will never be used. Or were used at one time, but are no longer needed. These should be deleted or archived. What is fresh in your memory now, won't be clear in a few weeks. And if someone new takes over the design of the site, it take up valuable time to decipher the file system.
