Directory InclusionDirectories differ from search engines in that they are maintained by real human beings. Yahoo is the best known of the on-line directories. Another, even more powerful directory is the Open Directory Project (www.dmoz.org). Created in 1998, it is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory on the internet. Many search engines pull information out of this directory. To get included to the ODP (which is not guaranteed), go to their Suggest a URL page (and follow their directions very carefully).Bruce Clay, Inc. has the most comprehensive graphical representation of how all of the search engines and directories are related. In it, it is possible to see the powerful connection the ODP has to all other directories and search engines. Getting placed in the OPD is a key element to any SEM campaign. |
